Our Story

The story of Cuppa Turca is a beautiful tale of homesickness turning into a local legend. The story begins in 2017. Harun was originally a tour guide in the magical region of Cappadocia, Turkey.

Shortly after arriving, Harun found himself hit by a deep, undeniable craving: he wanted real Turkish dondurma (stretchy ice cream) and a perfectly crispy künefe.

While Künefe is now a world-champion dessert, bringing its authentic taste to the streets of Melbourne, Australia, was a labor of love for Cuppa Turca’s founder, Harun Yalcin.

Today, Cuppa Turca stands as a bridge between two cultures—proving that whether you are in a bustling market in Turkey or a trendy street in Melbourne, the pull of a fresh künefe is a language everyone understands.

Turkish cuisine has so much depth beyond just kebabs. To see our traditional dessert recognized on a global stage—beating out French and Italian classics—is a win for every Turkish chef who stays true to the old ways. It’s why we refuse to take shortcuts here in Melbourne.

In Turkiye, a guest is a gift. As we’ve grown from a single dream to a Melbourne landmark, that philosophy hasn’t changed. We remain deeply humbled and ever-grateful to the community that has supported our craft and shared our table since day one.
